kan ook natuurlijk en is goedkoper,
maar
er gaat niets boven het werk van een vakman want het
moet natuurlijk professioneel betrouwbaar zijn. Wij
leveren diverse in opdracht gemaakte speciale
is eenvoudig zelf

Since first series-models were tested, many
professional users world-wide returned their PD150 or PD150P or
DSR-PD150 ( the professional version of VX2000 ) with an unacceptable
HISS-problem. When recording takes place with an extra mic. (with or
without phantom power) using AGC (Automatic Gain Control) mode turned
off the HISS is inevitably. Officially Sony
Professional and Consumer department up to now denied the problem, but
individual Sony co-workers acknowledge the problem after hearing the
test-tapes. And now for this alarming story about PD150
finally read Sony's official statement and comments Bob Love on first
shipment Sony PD150 or DSR-PD150:
SONY's DSR-PD150 Manual Audio S/N Upgrade Kit.
The high quality imagery, which the DSR-PD150 is capable, has captured
many
enthusiasts and professionals that demand audio performance beyond the
original design criteria of this camcorder.
In response to the increasing customer demand for a "Manual Audio
Mode"
signal to noise improvement. Sony has developed an upgrade kit for the
DSR-PD150 camcorder audio circuits.
The DSR-PD150 Manual Audio S/N Upgrade Kit is available for
installation by
the Sony Factory Service Center in Cypress, CA.
The cost of the installation of the DSR-PD150 Manual Audio SIN Upgrade
Kit
is $150 (one hundred and fifty US dollars) not including shipping or
handling. This upgrade is NOT covered under warranty.
This upgrade is applicable ONLY to DSR-PD150, and upon customer
request.
For further information please contact the Sony Product Operations
Support
Center (POSC) at 1-800-883-6817.
***============ END =================***
P.S. Owners of the Sony VX-2000 take note that the
above policy statement
clearly indicates this is an upgrade for the PD-150 only, and the POSC
number does not deal with the consumer version. Sorry!
BTW: A note to those that felt compelled to respond to the early
reports of
"hiss/noise" problems when using the manual gain control,
without having
seen or more importantly "heard" the problem. I think we can
all learn
something from this experience. First you have to have the camera,
then you
need to talk with others that have the same camera, but different
microphones. Once a pattern becomes clear, and a problem identified,
then it
is time to get "active". As I have stated before I am no
electronics expert,
but am able to do a fair job of investigating using the "process
of
elimination". In the end, I have no idea what parts are being
replaced in
the camera, but in the end it is clear that there was a problem,
otherwise
Sony would not be issuing an "Upgrade Kit". Hopefully there
will no longer
be any problems with the majority of professional microphones users
chose to
record with the camera.
Conclusion and opinion:
For those that never "heard" the hiss, either you have one
very special
camera or should consider purchasing some new "Sony"
headphones. <G>
I do not feel all "rumors" are bad as they sometimes draw
more interest and
attention to a problem or subject. The problem on the other side of
that, is
that when otherwise very knowledgeable people indicate that the
problem is
not with the equipment but in the manner that the people are using the
product is where the "fault" lays. This only adds confusion
to the issue and
places the blame in the wrong place. Granted many people may be
"beginners"
and perhaps do not read the manuals, but this whole experience also
proves
that big electronics companies also make mistakes, and unfortunately
it has
become our job as consumers to help them admit and fix these mistakes.
Happy video taping to all!
Bob Love.

NEW FUTURE: The registered Memory Stick"must"be inserted in order to
use the camcorder. Without the relevant Memory Stick, the camcorder
will not start RECORDING.
At Cebit Hannover SEVERAL Sony Japan
officials confirmed us VX2000 Progressive Scan has 25 frames a second.
I actually have this statement on tape! After taking a good look at
our first test tape with a first VX2000 sample model we noticed PS is
only 25 frames for TWO seconds! So HALF what it should be.
On PC100/ TRV20 in Memory Stick mode using the max resolution of the
big Mega Pixel chip when DV out is recorded it sure is 25 frames for
every 1 second so true PS. A fabulous result the best we ever saw.
Canon XL1 can't beat this quality (in good conditions, PC100 needs
more light). A must when transfer to 16mm or 35mm is wanted! TRV20 is
the better choice now for this job, its cheaper and has more gadgets.
So let us hope and pray official PD150 and VX2000 production line will
be 25 full frames every second! We already urged Sony Japan to do so!
(If that helps) Should be nice if all of you who want this future will
join this petition!
DV-DOCTOR JOHN FERRICK :
'THE CONSUMER WINS'
And the debate goes on: Sony just loves it. As
one of the people who was asked to make some comments and
recommendations by SONY for the VX2000 and the PD150 perhaps a little
insight might be usefull. Sony has a small group that has the
responsibility for taking the consumer group products and dvCAM'ING
them. This group is extremely profitable (Sony's comments) but has
limited latitude in what can be done; Basically they are able to take
the consumer units, keep the same basic chassis and electronics but
make user interface and addon mods: SO It is very unlikely that the
unit has a different CCD ip set especially as Sony does not have a PRO
1/4 inch product.
The audio interface is typical and very much along the lines of the
DSR200 vs the VX9000. As far as heads go the following is my
understanding:
ONLY the PD100 used a special head with the 15 micron gap as an
experiment, ALL the rest in fact just run the tape faster and if you
read carefully SONY only claims that there is a 15 micron track PITCH.
I specifically asked the product manager re the heads on the PD150 and
was told
THEY ARE THE SAME THE TRADE OFF WAS FOR THE REQUEST TO BE ABLE TO
RECORD DV AND DVCAM. If you have followed this d iscussion in earlier
years, there is a method to have greater gap heads read the smaller
track of DV but if you try to RECORD using the 15 micron heads IN DV
mode it would not work as the tracks would overlap. SO I do think that
Charles might be mistaken in thinking that the PD150 heads are true
DVcam 15 micron heads. The Promax Sony sales Rep at NAB while very
enthusiastic did not seem to be an expert of any sorts. Re the
confusion re Progressive scan, when you call in you get a person who
is reading a database script. Yes the PD150 has progressive scan CCD's
but again based on conversations at NAB and some tests that have been
reported here, IT ONLY OPERATES IN PHOTO MODE. Remember the Pc100,
here Jan Van der Meer discovered that the MegaPixel ccd only recorded
normal ccd size for video and full mega size for Photo. Jan discovered
a neat trick to use the firewire output to record his signal and tests
showed that you did in fact get to use all the pixels. Progressive
scan on SONY is different than the Panasonic derived Progressive scan
on the CANON'S. The data sheets are quite specific that it is ONLY in
PHOTO mode and AT HALF the Frame rate in VIDEO MODE. Interestingly, at
Cebit where the VX2000 was first shown, the German Product manager
also expressed disappointment in the fact that the CCD's were not a
significant advance. Remember that Sony is being VERY careful not to
have the same effect as the VX1000 had on Higher end sales. Sony still
wants to sell DSR300/500's. The Monochrome viewfinder is another
compromise. with 180k pixels It is impossible to see 500 lines of
resolution, It is better (about 20%) than the color but it is STILL
LCD.
The Sony Sales people initially were insisting that it was CRT but
again the Product Manager resolved that issue.
Basically I do think it is better than the VX2000 in Use, The audio
system is a vast improvement especially with the ability to control
the different channels independently. Here Sony really listened. The
clever rethink of the use of buttons on the VX2000 makes a big IMO
user interface difference. That said :
I think the LCD is too small ( the 4 inch size on the PD100 is far
more usable) The Zoom ring was not very smooth on the unit I played
with, (I think there will be a lot of Varizoom's
sold) And they still are using the servo control system with No
physical stops for focus and zoom. (this was an area that I had
requested on the Vx2000 project) Market research seemed to tell
Sony that while many people like the interchangeable lens on the Xl1
very few people actually use it and since rumor (more than rumor) has
it that Canon builds the Steady- shot lens portion for Sony or Sony
builds it under License from Canon, this request was not likely to be
accommodated. SO as always TRY before you BUY, see what features are
important to YOU in your work. Best news is that products are getting
better, cheaper and more of them, so in the end the consumer wins.
John Ferrick
GREAT PD150 NAB Review from
KingJim at Video Newsgroup
"Sony has a winner
with PD150 - my opinion after dissecting it at NAB for 2 days"
I made a point when I went to NAB to
spend a lot of time checking out Sony's new pro version of the VX2000.
As usual Sony had its cameras set up in an arena type show with all of
them pointing towards a colorful scene. This year it was an excavation
theme in Egypt. They had models posing as archaeologists dressed in
very colorful clothing. Two PD150s were set up. I spent two days
studying the camera and shooting footage on my dv tape so I could
check out the results.
First off, the B/W viewfinder is superb.
The clarity was excellent. Unlike the LCD viewfinder on the VX1000,
this one gives 500 lines and it was extremely easy to focus with. The
flip out color screen was also very crisp. Having dual XLR was a major
plus. They were mounted under the shotgun mic that was supplied. One
thing that most of these smaller cameras don't have is back focus. So
when I zoomed in and set my focus (manually of course) I pulled in/out
repeatedly and the focus stayed dead on. The zoom rocker allows a very
slow to rapid zoom. The manual zoom ring worked ok, although I wish it
was a mechanical one like the one on the VX3. I asked the Sony
engineer about this and about why they didn't go with a longer lens.
On the zoom, he said the lens would have to be smaller for a
mechanical one and it would not have been as good a lens. On the lens
size, he stated to go with a larger one would have meant it would be a
lot bigger, thus front heavy like the XL1.
In low light it worked very well. I
shot away from the colorful set and went from 0 dB to 15 dB. As I went
up the noise was not there, they really did a good job on this. This
camera is in a class by itself in low light compared to the VX1000. I
would rate it a 9.
Separate audio adjustable meters are
visible if you choose to display them in the viewfinder. Timecode can
also be displayed. The camera weighs 3.3 lbs. It had a 64 meg chip in
it for photos. I also took some shots in the photo mode and they were
excellent. Very crisp with good color separation. Overall the picture
quality was extremely sharp and the separation was also as good.
The way they have controls set up are a
lot better for manual settings: gain, exposure, and shutter speed.
They are all on the back side with the adjustment wheel below them, so
it's very easy to make the adjustments while you're shooting without
having to stop and do it off the side of the camera like you do on the
VX1000.
One thing that wasn't what I expected
was their statement that it had a manual iris ring. This is not a true
one. Unlike the ring you have on a lens where you can gradually open
or close it, there is an iris wheel on the left side so you can easily
adjust it while shooting but it happens in stops, so you see the
glitch as the exposure changes. Unlike a true manual iris, but still
it is a nice feature.
The PD150 also has color bars with or
without tone and an optional battery that they had on the camera at
NAB gives you 8 hours of shooting, probably 5 realistically with
zooming. It was much bigger than the other Li-ions, just stuck out
about an inch. I think it was a 950. The camera is a dark gray and
very robust.
Overall this will be a big seller.
Available in late May/early June, it will sell street for around US$3500-3600.
I'll definitely be getting one for a second/backup to my DSR300. Sony
took their time with this one and it's going to pay off. I'm glad I
waited and didn't get the PD100 (which is nice for what it has to
offer)
*When recording in DV (SP mode only),
you may not be able to get clean, seamless recording. In order to get
a more reliable and higher quality image, we recommend using the DVCAM
cassette and recording in DVCAM mode.
