After our problems with a not working external DPA microphone (2V) Sony Japan confirmed Sony Holland wrong specifications for DCout on FX1 and probably also for Z1. In all specifications and manual Sony sells the FX1 with a 2,5 - 3.0 volt DC out. Which Tom van der Hoff proved is not true. The FX1 delivers no more than 1.8 - 2.0 Volt. So not enough for Toms superb stereo DPA systemmic. So this means all microphones asking for more than 2.o V from external DCout mini-jack connector will need extra battery power. A separate box with extra connectors is needed. Tom is designing one for Global-DVC now. Will soon be in production and also has a special switch for cutting of (low cut filter) ending at 40 or 130. Which works far better than Sony's own "wind filter". Also extra connectors for a stereo mic will give a mono sound on left or right channel. Photo and more specs will follow. Price 195 euro.
Global-DVC loves the FX1. It has a superb 16:9. Most consumers will love it all and Pro's who could not wait for pro-version Z1 will take bad sound for grant and use separate mics with a separate XLR mixer/box underneath the FX1. But what a pity, we noticed the microphones registries all camera-handling. Anyone can hear this. Even a slight touch over the body will result in noise! Also a soft rattling noise spoils the audiorecording. Noise when zooming also. So big question.... will the pro-version be better? And what about artifacting after conversion to DV. We have this a lot and dont' read any comments on this matter in tests.
Op de videocamera's zitten filters die alles onder de 400 a 500 herz wegsnijden. Dat is een kleine poging om het windgeruis uit de microfoon te halen. Volgens Tom is dat een incompetente methode om dat te doen. Het merendeel blijft namelijk bestaan omdat het hogere frequenties zijn dan 500 herz. Een veel betere methode om windgeruis weg te halen is een windjammer zoals wij deze in diverse maten leveren.
Sommige microfoons zoals de DPA 4060 gaan echter dwars door dat filter heen en kunnen dus met een videocamera wél die lage frequenties opnemen. Ideaal voor het opnemen van live-muziek en ook prachtige opnames gemaakt van een orgelconcert in de Grote Kerk te Haarlem.
Soms wil je dat laag eruit hebben omdat het als hinderlijk ervaren wordt. Bijvoorbeeld 'rumble' in het autoverkeer, gedonder van machines, deuren die hard in een slot vallen etc. Dat doen we dan niet bij 500 herz maar eerder bij 100 of zoals Tom dat doet bij 130 herz.
BIJVOEDING!
Hij ontwierp en fabriceerde voor ons een kastje die dat dus wel perfect doet en tevens de DPA microfoon de juiste spanning geeft. Het bleek namelijk dat de door Sony in de specificaties afgifte van 2,5 tot 3,0 volt niet haalt. Maximaal geeft deze uitgang een spanning af van 1.8 - 2.0 volt. Bijvoeding is dus nodig! Sluit je een tweede monomicrofoon aan (voor interviews) dan schakelt automatisch de stereomicrofoon zichzelf uit en wordt mono links en die ander op rechts. Zijn er geen minijacks aangesloten dan schakelen zich de twee ingekapselde baterrijen automatisch uit. Deze gaan dan ook jaren mee. De kosten van dit kastje in productie is ongeveer 195 euro ex BTW. Te bestellen via Jan van der Meer bij Global-DVC.So on the FX1 we have to use a separate mic for pro-purposes. We used our special stereo set DPA4060 mics. These work perfect on PD170 and all other Sony cams. However this mic needs 2,5 and 3,5 volt for best performance. But Sony specifications are wrong. (We did the test with several FX1's) Tom measured different voltage as given and now we have to power up our mic. with some batteries in his far better working low-cut filter box.
He even designed an extra input for a second mic. The stereo line reduced in one mono left and the right one is for a wireless or shotgun mono. When no jacks attached the battery shuts down automatically. Price $ 225.
Also Sony made a big mistake on page 80 (dutch). On Mic/Line (Plug in power) they show you to use the wrong cable which could result in a close to kill speaker sound as this is the plug in for power line connection!
