Ulead HD plug-in now works with new Sony camcorders

Ulead Systems has announced the release of an upgraded HD Plug-in which now handles high definition video shot with the new Sony HDR-FX1 and HVR-Z1 Handycam camcorders and output to Sony's HVR-M10 Video Tape Recorder.

Version 2.0 of Ulead's HD Plug-in allows users to use MediaStudio Pro 7, Ulead’s post-production video editing suite, to natively capture, edit, and output high-resolution HDV 1080i without a loss of video quality. MediaStudio Pro 7 works with HDV content without requiring third party tools or interfaces.
The Ulead HD Plug-in is priced at US$299.

Sony has announced that its media group, in cooperation with CineForm Inc., now has special pricing on CineForm's Connect HD application software for users of Sony's Vegas 5 video and audio editing software.

The incorporation of Connect HD on the Vegas 5 platform will enable users of the recently-announced Sony HVR-Z1U professional HDV camcorder, HVR-M1OU deck and the recently announced consumer HDR-FX1 camera to capture, edit and export HDV in the 1080i format. This updated version of Connect HD enables capturing and export of HDV content directly from and back to the HVR-Z1U and other HDV cameras.

Connect HD is built around CineForm's Visually Perfect high-definition editing codec, CFHD. During capture, the Connect HD capture tool transcodes the incoming HDV signal on the fly into CineForm's proprietary wavelet-based compression format. According to Sony, the resulting AVI file offers a more efficient editing configuration than HDV's native long-GOP MPEG. An updated version of Vegas 5 software with HDV-specific enhancements will also be released in the near future.

Registered users of Vegas 5 software can purchase Connect HD software online through www.sony.com/mediasoftware at special manufacturer's suggested retail pricing of US$149.
